  • Texas College is pleased to announce to Texas College Spring Preview Days on 3/19 and 4/16.Remember, you get two college days to use during your junior year to visit colleges.This is a great opportunity to check out Texas College and find your after graduation place.

  • The University of Texas at Austin Student Dinner in East Texas.On March 5th, The Dallas Admissions Center will be hosting "Longhorn Future: Black and Latinx Celebration Dinner.”  We are extending the invitation to Black/African American and Latinx juniors in the region who are interested in UT so they may begin learning about what makes UT a great option for their goals. Applications Now Being Accepted for the Texas Youth Preparedness Council

 


 

Do you know a high school student who is passionate about emergency preparedness and community resilience? If so, they should apply to be on the Texas Youth Preparedness Council!

TheTexas Youth Preparedness Councilis a statewide youth group made up of youth leaders from across the state who are interested in preparedness and making their communities more resilient. The mission of the council is to engage and empower youth in individual and community preparedness activities and roles. The council provides an opportunity for Texas high school students to enhance their knowledge of preparedness and develop leadership skills that will help them in addressing the needs of their communities. Youth will work on local preparedness projects, beambassadors for youth preparedness on the state level, and provide a unique perspective to state agencies interested in preparedness.

  • The Don’t Mess with Texas Scholarship is available at www.dontmesswithtexas.org and is due by 3/31/2020. They also have an art contest with prizes, that you can find info on at the same link and is due by 4/24/2020. Yes, these are open to Juniors!!!

     

  • If you have Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Electricity – then you can apply to attend the East Texas Rural Electric Youth Seminar.It is an all-expenses paid leadership camp this summer.Hurry, deadline to apply is 5/15/2020 This looks great on a college resume or job application.The application is available in the counselor’s Office.Come on down and see me to get yours!

  • Stephen F. Austin State University or SFA, has an amazing opportunity for students wanting to study medicine.The have a camp that you can apply for to attend this summer. Not everyone will attend a 2 or 4 year degreed program, so here is an option:

  • Arlington Career Institute at www.arlingtoncareerinstitute.edu can train you in Court Reporting, Paralegal/Legal Assistance, Admin Assistants, Medical Assistants, Medical office specialist, Nursing Assistant, and HCVR-Tech.Contact them for more info and receive information on a scholarship.

     

  • Spring Mini-College Fair – in Tyler.4/7/2020 – they will have about 30 schools that will be represented to talk to you about admission, costs, dorms, etc.More info to come…

Are you looking for an alternative to college after high school?  How about becoming a Pharmacy Tech?  Check out www.passassured.com to find out about the training program – that only costs $299 and the certification exam is only $100 more.  Furthermore, if you are going to college you could do the program and work as a pharmacy tech while in college – WIN-WIN!!!

The College Board Opportunity Scholarships program opens in December for your juniors. Save the getting started steps below and schedule a kick-off activity before winter break.

Early efforts will get rewarded! Students who've already taken action to build their college list onBigFuture™and
link their College Board and Khan Academy® accountsto practice for the SAT® on Official SAT Practice will automatically earn a scholarship entry when they join the program once it opens next month.

Getting Your Juniors Started in December

1.

Students shouldjoin the programby signing in with their existing College Board account (same one they used for the SAT and PSAT/NMSQT®) or they cancreate an accountif they don’t have one.

2.

They should click on the yellowEarn Scholarshipsbutton at the top of the homepage.

3.

They should review the official rules on theOpt Inscreen and clickAgree. Then they’re ready to start turning their efforts into scholarships!

Good day Bear Juniors!

Here is some interesting news you can use:

 

ETREYS – East Texas Rural Electric Youth Seminar

ETREYS is and all expenses paid camp where students come together to foster positive ideas and values, enhancing leadership skills, problem-solving and interpersonal relationships in a wholesome environment. AND…it’s a whole lot of fun!!!

You must have either Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Electric Service or Upshur-Rural Electric Cooperative Electric Service in order to apply.   This is for current juniors and takes place this summer at a local college campus.  The seminar consists of workshops, presentations, and peer group activities.  There are several functions and free-time activities to develop life-long friendships and have fun and relaxation. 

Speakers include nationally-known personalities, college professors, and community leaders.  Session topics range from leadership development to pure entertainment. 

BTW, you can also win scholarships!!!

The applications will be available in the counselor’s office by January 31, so come on down, walk by, say hi and pick up and application on 1/31/20.

Exciting Opportunity for SAT or ACT Prep - Posted 12/19/19

SAT Prep Course

Office of Community Engagement

The University of Texas at Tyler is partnering with Capstone Advising to offer free SAT preparatory courses for high school students in preparation for the upcoming SAT test held on March 14, 2020. Courses will be offered at the Tyler, Longview, and Palestine campuses and available to 30 students at each location.

The course will begin on Saturday, February 15 and will conclude on Saturday, March 7 in preparation for the March 14 SAT test. Each course will be led by the experienced instructors at Capstone Advising, and lunch will be served during each session.

  • Saturday, February 15: 9:30am-4pm
  • Saturday, February 22: 9:30am-4pm
  • Saturday, February 29: 8am-12pm (Practice Test)
  • Saturday, March 7: 9:30am-4pm

The Tyler, Longview, and Palestine prep courses will hold up to 30 students, and a confirmation e-mail will be sent after registration is complete to the students that have obtained a spot. The additional students will be kept on a waiting list and notified as spots become available.
