Sedric G. Clark, Ed.D.,  Superintendent

On behalf of the GISD Board of Trustees, it is my pleasure to welcome all members of the Bear Nation to the start of the 2020-2021 school year!  We’re proud to have you as part of a district that is student centered and where we are achieving excellence together.

Just as the 2019-2020 school year ended like no other, this school year is beginning like no other.  Enduring the safety and education of students has never been easy.  Ensuring that safety and education during a pandemic will be an even greater challenge.  But if any group is up to meet that challenge, I can say with complete confidence that the GISD's team of employees is!

In GISD, ensuring the safety of our students and employees is not only our top responsibility, it is now our top priority. We have worked to put practices and protocols in place that will maximize safety for everyone. At the same time, we have worked to ensure that each student’s learning experience, whether in person or virtual, is tailored to meet his or her needs and foster his or her growth.

Our partnership with the home is now more important than ever. As our parents perform daily wellness and temperature checks on their children, they become the first line of defense in our plan.  Additionally, we are counting on the parents of students receiving instruction via remote learning to help keep them engaged and focused.  Truly, we all have an important role to make this year a success.

Approximately 1835 preschool - 12th grade students will return to school on Wednesday, August 12th, either in person or virtually, ready to learn and to see their "new normal". At GISD, we are working to ensure that this year, even with the "new normal", is the best school year ever!

Thank you for your continued support!  GISD - Achieving Excellence Together!

Go Bears!
